Bill Critchley, MBA, MSc
Bill’s focus is on enabling people in organisations to have the conversations they need to have, to assess the cultural norms, habits and patterns of behaviour which may need to be changed, and the issues which need to be addressed to enable innovation and growth. For over 20 years, he has been working with organisations, not only to minimise the constraints of bureaucracy, but also to improve their capacity to innovate and evolve.
He coaches senior executives, and has also specialized in working with senior teams and thinks the real difference to be made is in helping them improve the quality of dialogue needed to address ‘strategic’ issues, the decisions that shape the organisation, where data is limited and there is little agreement or certainty on how to progress. These are the problems or 'adaptive challenges' that the senior team is expected to address, where differences have to be resolved, and a pragmatic consensus reached.

His approach is informed by practical business and consulting experience, and some useful theory, in particular a perspective on organisations as complex social processes, which has radical implications for change and leadership. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, he was a member of the leadership team of Ashridge Consulting, and worked for Ashridge Business School for twenty years. He founded and lead the Ashridge MSc, the Ashridge Professional Doctorate in Organisation Consulting, and he also founded the Ashridge programme in Coaching for Organisation Consultants.

What do you do for your own development?
I have individual supervision with Prof Ernesto Spinelli whose focus is existentialism, a peer, therapy, supervision group, and I read and write (a recent article on internal coaching to be published in Coaching Today, and an article on OD consulting for AMED.
