“Possitopia”

At the start of our creative climate conversations about the Earth crisis, Bridget McKenzie invited us to hold a possitopian picture of the future - a helpful alternative to the paralysing polarities of dystopia and utopia.

Different eco-lenses

During this rich and stirring 3 hour workshop, Bridget also invited us to take an everyday object and describe its material /function/history through a range of different types of lenses. These included lenses:

  • for deep listening
  • to show an other species’ view
  • to show time/ possible futures
  • to show what’s broken
  • an archaeological lens

Our examples of objects included: a cardboard coaster showing a picture of a migrant thrush, a ‘bumblebee’ agate, a mug of tea, earthworms’ view.

Curating contexts for catalysing conversations...

We hope this will be the first of a number of conversations on sustainability and one-planet living, and what they mean for us as practitioners,  as part of AMED’s Exploring Urgent Social Issues.

This was a really interesting and varied session, so thanks for organising.  Great to have different ways of trying to notice the lenses we are using, for all types of development work including how to have sustainable people, organisations and one-planet living.
