The AMED Writers' Group (AWG) 2021

Your invitation

Do come and join us for any of our highly participative gatherings that explore the  contribution that writing, reading and conversations, interacting, make to our personal and professional lives.

We are a friendly, open, informal and generous community of writing practice. We welcome anyone who is interested in any form or context of writing, reading and conversation for personal, professional, organisational or creative development. As critical friends, we are always looking for opportunities to support and celebrate each other’s writing/reading/conversational projects, enthusiasms and interests, in any way we can.  We also welcome offers to propose and/or facilitate a themed session.

'Normally', we would meet in person the 3rd Friday afternoon of every even-numbered month at Roots and Shoots, London SE11 6DN from 1.15 to 4.30 pm, unless shown otherwise. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we're making a virtue of interacting via Zoom.

Our AWG Schedule for 2021

So far, we are planning the following list of events for 2021, and are negotiating the details, which will be added in due course. We may schedule other events from time to time. Our gatherings are open to everyone, whether or not you are fully subscribing AMED Members. So please feel free to spread the word.

19 February:  Creative Climate Conversations with Bridget McKenzie of the Climate Museum

19 March:  Spring/Summer 2021 e-O&P Authors/Critical Friends optional Drop In session, 3-5 pm

10 April: Critical friendships support workshop for e-O&P contributors

16 April: 'Giving voice to ideas and images', with Bob MacKenzie and others

28 May: 'My New Normal - getting ready for working-life beyond lockdown', a free one-hour workshop via Zoom with Claire Pearce, 11 am - 12 noon

18 June:  Writing about a 'Revolution in People Skills' via Zoom, with Pamel Milne

20 August:  About his 2021 book on The Wiggly World of Organization, and its writing, with Chris Rodgers, 1.30-4.30 pm.  (in-person at Roots and Shoots if at all possible, with a Zoom fallback option)

17 December:  'Private Passions and Highlights of our Writing Year', our annual celebration

***

Our AWG schedule for 2020

You are welcome to contact me at any time if you have any questions or suggestions, or if you'd like to offer to facilitate one of our gatherings. I do hope that we'll get to meet in 2020.

Best wishes. Bob MacKenzie E: bob@amed.org.uk.

Dear writers, in celebration of International Women's Day (some several weeks ago now)  the British Library hosted a webinar by Oxford Languages on sexist language in the dictionary.  The recording has just come through and here is the link:  https://youtu.be/hFG0FqBkQXM

For anyone interested in words, their development and history, this is a really interesting resource.

Thank you, Ruth, for drawing this valuable resource to our attention.

Best wishes.  Bob

Hi, I just wanted to alert or remind everyone who is writing and needing sources that JSTOR has announced an extension to their provision. It is an excellent resource of us without institutional access. Anyone can register for a free account and this is the link:

Hi everyone, I'm new to AMED. I was recommended to this network as I am passionate about writing which I use in my coaching and workshops. Would love any hints on how to best use group, how I will receive notifications of events etc. Thanks so much, Claire.

We have received a PDF copy of a new book 'Beyond Genuine Stupidity - Ensuring AI Serves Humanity'.

Published on 27th November, 'Beyond Genuine Stupidity - Ensuring AI Serves Humanity' is the new book from Fast Future Publishing. It explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could have impacts across every aspect of our world - highlighting practical strategies to ensure a positive overall impact for humanity.

The book explores the potential impacts on sectors ranging from healthcare and
automotive to legal and education. The implications for business itself are also
examined from leadership and HR to sales and business ethics.

Please let me know if you are interested in reviewing it, I can send the complete PDF copy to you by email.

Kind regards,

Linda Williams

We have been offered an advance copy of Reinvention: Accelerating
Results in the Age of Disruption [July 26, 2016, Greenleaf Book Group

Cragun and Kate Sweetman http://www.sweetmancragun.com.

In Reinvention, they share their simple formula, common
principles, and set of tools for individuals and organizations facing
disruptive and radical change. Cragun and Sweetman are the leading global
experts on the new competency of Reinvention — the ability to create
‘quantum individual and organizational change accelerated.’

Please let me know if you are interested in receiving an advance review
copy of Reinvention -- paperback advance copies can be provided upon

Thank you, Prabhu

Please send it ibn, and we'll see if wee can find a reviewer.

It was good to speak to you this afternoon, and I'm looking forward to seeing you more closely involved with AMED when your return to the UK in the Autumn.

Best wishes.  Bob

You might want to be aware of The Relational Lens: Understanding, Measuring and Managing Stakeholder Relationships, which is due to be published in the summer by Cambridge University Press.

If you are interested in reviewing it, I can send the complete text in e-format (the physical object will of course appear only in the summer).

Thanks foryour suggestions, Olive, which will certainly go into the pot.

The BL is certainly in the frame (can you suggest a particular contact) and we actually have the Friends Meeting House in Hampstead in reserve, though it's not exactly central.

Best wishes.  Bob
