Event Description

Your invitation: Would you like to spend rare facilitated time on your writing project, whatever it is? Join us in the delightful Brighton Friends Meeting House, working on your own writing, in the company of others who are developing theirs.
Our process is informed by principles of writing in social spaces, action learning and critical friendship, and by three sets of assumptions:
1. Writing involves supportive social/relational as well as individual/solitary activity.
2. It’s important to exchange ideas and experiences concerning all sorts of writing-related issues, as an integral part of doing the writing itself. Issues can be as much practical and psychological as methodological and technical, that contribute to writing inertia.
3. At any stage of the writing process it can help to come together with others in a small, informal, facilitated community of writing practice.

How we'll work
We'll engage as peers in a spirit of reciprocal, well-intentioned, informed and sensitive challenge and support according to a clear set of groundrules, working flexibly along the following lines:
o Welcome, introductions and an outline of critical friendship, action learning and social writing processes.
o Agenda-building, based on participants’ individual writing-related issues
o Free writing
o Action Learning conversations with peers around issues arising
o Own writing to develop individual writing projects
o 1:1 and/or small group discussions amongst critical friends
o Another round of own writing
o Group Review and individual action planning
o The possibility of rehearsing purposeful writing by contributing subsequently to AMED’s journal e-O&P.
What to bring: Please bring some writing and reading technology of your choice - both manuscript and digital if possible. Also, please come prepared to share your ideas for, or examples of, a writing or reading project that you’re working on or considering.
Afterwards (optional) we can continue our conversations informally in a pub or coffee shop in the nearby La(i)nes.
Cost (payable via the AMED Office here: £25 for full AMED Members; £30 for Networkers and Guests. This includes light refreshments. You can bring your own packed lunch, or choose from one of the many quirky eating places in the nearby La(i)nes.
Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to spread the word. This event is not exclusive to AMED Members.

RSVP by 30 August (earlier if possible).
Please don’t hesitate to contact me first if there’s anything you’d like to discuss.  Best wishes. Bob. E: bob@amed.org.uk.

Thank you, Jonathan.  It would be great to work with you again if you can make the trek.  In any case, very best wishes for your own writing.  Bob

Thanks Bob - this looks to be really helpful - but a really long way from Exeter! I'll seek a way to get there. I am currently on a writing retreat, working on my most-rejected paper (again) about narrative forms that characterise the ways that 'change management' is described. Some fellow writers here are closer to Brighton so I will pass the info to them too.

www.writingretreat.org is where I'm at ...
