Claire writes: Self-discovery, self-soothing, self-expression – writing has so much to offer. It’s not just for writing poetry or novels. A lot of people don’t write because they feel they’re not ‘Writers’ with a capital ‘W’. There’s so much written (and spoken) about the value of writing (e.g. from Julia Cameron’s ‘morning pages’ to daily journaling, which seems to be more popular than ever). In our disconnected world, connecting with ourselves, as well as with others, has never been so important, and writing is a great way to make that happen.
Our process: Through a process of free writing prompts that I call ‘Write-Enjoy-Repeat’, my aim is to encourage people who would not necessarily regard themselves as ‘Writers’ to write - whether just for fun, or to journal, or to write something more ‘finished’. With their permission, I feature a selection of these writings on Instagram. In this AWG session, I’d like to share these writing prompts, which we can then discuss in pairs. This can be a prelude to engaging in some free writing about why we love writing, about what it gives us, and why we feel that others should try it. If we wish, we can then share our writings with each other and the group.
We can also discuss how to encourage others to get back to writing, or to give writing a try, and generally what we can do to promote writing.
We’ll have a refreshment break halfway through.
