Event Description

POSTPONED FROM 20 AUGUST

Your invitation to our first in-person AMED Writers’ Group since February 2020!

Chris writes: ‘The poet, John Keats, once suggested that what he called a “Man of Achievement” (especially in Literature) possessed a quality that he referred to as “Negative Capability”. He said that this exists, “… when a man [sic] is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason”.

With this in mind, I will share my thoughts on muddling through towards what became the successful publication of my new, 2nd book, The Wiggly World of Organization - Muddling through with purpose, courage and skill (Routledge). I will identify some of the uncertainties, mysteries and doubts that emerged along the way, and reflect on how far I've been able to achieve a degree of mastery in the writing process, and in getting the book into print. There will be opportunities for personal reflection, small-group and whole-group discussion of issues that emerge, including possible implications for participants’ own writing. I will invite participants to consider the extent to which aspects of their own writing, whatever their form, reflect a sense of mastery, mystery and muddling through.’

Booking and Cost: £15, if in-person, to include tea or coffee (our preferred Option A - see below); or free, if we have to revert to Zoom (Option B).  Please pay here, and reply to Bob @ bob@amed.org.uk by Friday 13 August (sic!) – earlier if possible - with your preferred participation option (A, B and/or C - see below).  For your in-person comfort and safety, we’ll ensure adequate ventilation and social distance, and limit the number of participants to 12.  Please come with a mask in your pocket, just in case. We’ll adopt a first-come, first-served approach, and keep a reserve list in case of in-person cancellations, or if we have to revert to Zoom.
Your participation choices:   Please indicate whether you are able to participate (A) in person, (B) by Zoom only, or (C) flexibly, by either means - in-person or via Zoom. We’ll give priority to those who choose Options A and C.

Thank you, Ruth.  Undcerstood!  I'll put you on the Zoom back-up list.  It would be good to chat soon, about JAM, HM etc.  meantime, I hope all's well with you.  Kind regards.  Bob

Dear Bob, I would love to attend but can't travel to London - if you select Zoom or a hybrid event, then count me in!  I understand, however, if you do not do that.  Things have to get back to normal, but for us, not just yet!  Hope you are well.

The PDW workshop at AoM was warmly received and I will be writing to you separately.

Ruth

Hi Bob

Sadly I wont be attending any in-person meetings like this for a while yet. I am also having a minor op that week and wouldn't be up to travelling to London.

If you revert to online then I will join you.

Would love to return to Roots & Shoots and see you all again in person - in time I will.

Melanie
