Your Invitation from Erica and Fizza
As edition co-editors, we’d like to invite you to send in your proposals for contributions to the Spring/Summer edition of e-O&P 2021. We're looking at stories of "Living with catastrophe" which complicate the usual narratives of survival-as-overcoming. Drawing from our own background in gender studies as well as on the current health crisis, we wish to challenge the mantra of "bouncing back" by highlighting the ways in which getting through difficult times may involve more of a process of "hanging on". We welcome contributions which foreground vulnerability and the ways in which it affects our bodies, our systems and our selves, and we hope to bring together writers from all walks of life.
We’re looking to experiment with a range of different formats as well as including more ‘traditional’ journal articles, so if you would like to contribute poetry or sound, image, or video work, then please do get in touch. We’re also looking for technical support to assist with said formats, so if that's more up your street then we'd love to hear from you, too! Finally, we are also very happy to welcome anyone who would like to take part as a critical friend.
So far we've received some fascinating proposals, covering topics which include:
- the timing of social work
- gender-based power imbalances in land use
- immigration and precarity
- the value of community art in lockdown
- chronic illness stories
- untold narratives of Karachi
We hope that with your help we can bring together many more contributions. At this stage, we only require a very brief text explaining your initial idea, plus a little bit about you and your background. Please do have a look at the full Invitation to Contribute and the Notes for Contributors for further details and guidance, and feel free to send us an email if there is anything you would like to discuss. You can reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org (Erica) and email@example.com (Fizza). Please send in your ideas by 10th January, earlier if possible. We look forward to hearing from you!
With warmest thanks, Erica (Piasecka) and Fizza (Hasan)
