Event Description

'We can all create a better Britain (world) for the next generation(s).  There are big economic and social benefits for everyone involved - and our collective futures depend on making it happen.'  (Stephen Burke)

Your Invitation: Please join us for an open session to share and explore ideas about how different generations might come together for the common good.

An emergent theme

What began as a one-day AMED event in Brighton in 2013 has evolved into a developing group of people from a range of generations and backgrounds who engage with each other as critical friends to share ideas and experiences about ways to lead or instigate change, both personally and in our communities.

The chance to exchange and share across generations really excites all of us in different ways.  Last year, in Spain, our theme of ‘Inter-generationality’, which was always latent, emerged explicitly, and we have taken up this theme for this year’s OST2019 Gathering in Yorkshire.  Here, we hope to understand more about what happens when people relate in this way, and witness the power and energy that inter-generationality has the potential to generate.  How we might work together: As members of different generations, Bob, Alison and Beth have been sharing and developing ideas for this AWG session.  Each of us, differently, will suggest a way of exploring inter-generationality through the medium of writing and conversation.  On 21 June, Alison and Beth will join with us digitally at various times during our time together.  We also hope that your contribution during this session will inform and feed into OST2019 and AMED 2020.

More when we meet.  Meantime, if you have time, please bring along some writing (your own or someone else’s) or thoughts, to help us explore the relationship between writing and generations.

About your facilitators:  Beth is a Trainee Social Worker working and living in East Anglia. Following years of studying in London and then working abroad, she felt it was time to get to know England better and came back to her roots to enjoy family, friendships, history and community by the North Sea. Alison is a pivotal member of the OST hosting team, and has hosted two of our annual gatherings at her home in France. Bob is the oldest (chronologically) member of the OST  hosting team and convenor of the AMED Writers’ Group.
