Event Description

Your invitation:  Please join our free celebratory and anticipatory AMED Writers’ Group session via Zoom on Friday 24 June to explore and share experiences of transitioning through writing.

Context:  On 31 August 2022, AMED – and therefore the AMED Writers’ Group (AWG) – will cease to exist in its current form.  Does this represent an abrupt ending, or hold out the prospect of new beginnings?  Is the idea of transitioning helpful?  What transitions might your own writing interests be going through or bringing about?  How might the legacy of the AWG be sustained?

In this penultimate session of the AWG in its current form, working in plenary and small groups, we’ll share our respective plans for and experiences of transitioning – especially through writing – and consider how the AWG might continue to flourish after 31 August.

Bob writes:  ‘As Convenor of the AWG, I’ve had the privilege of developing my interest in the significant role that writing, editing and conversations – interacting – can play in personal, management, organisational and societal learning and development.  Over many years, I’ve enjoyed opportunities to share enthusiasms and interests with a delightful and diverse range of curious, principled, independent-minded and creative people from different backgrounds, perspectives and settings. And – through a process informed by critical friendship (MacKenzie 2015) – we’ve been able to support authors and other practitioners in articulating, publishing, and sharing their ideas, especially if they are initially hesitant.’  Working through endings, transitionings and new beginnings:  If you’d care to consider these issues in a little more detail in advance (this is not obligatory!), you might like to browse the Summer 2020 edition of e-O&P ‘AMED 2020 … and Beyond? Transitioning through turbulent times’, or the article that I wrote for it, which I’m attaching here, called In transition through writing’.

How to book your place: Please send me an e-mail by Wednesday 22 June (earlier if possible).  You can also click on the RSVP panel on the right-hand side of this Events web page. I’ll send you a ZOOM link to join our AWG meeting a day before the event.  Meantime, please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions, or would like to offer to facilitate a future AWG session.

Best wishes for your writing transitions.  Bob bob@amed.org.uk.
