Event Description

The position of the artist is humble. He [sic] is essentially a channel?” [Piet Mondrian]

My life is a story of the self-realisation of the unconscious.

[CG Jung]

Blocked in your writing? Looking for ideas? Seeking inspiration?

This first AMED Writers’ Group session of 2019 invites you, through image-making, poetry and the Jungian method of active imagination, to connect for an afternoon with your creative writing self or ‘Daemon’.
Louise writes
‘Over the last few years, I have been exploring ways to make a place for the unconscious in my work, my writing and my research. I have been very much inspired by the work of C.G. Jung and his revolutionary thinking about the unconscious.

My exploration has resulted in applying, this year, to do a PhD on ‘Countertransference in Transformative Learning’. This will be an arts-based collaborative inquiry, involving making and working with images as a way to explicate unconscious group dynamics when facilitating adult learning groups. I hope you will join me, as co-inquirers, to pilot this research methodology during this afternoon’s session. We will play, inquire and engage in the creative process to explore:

• What happens when we connect and dialogue with our unconscious? How does it help our writing?
• How can externalising our inner world into images help us transform our creative blocks?
• In what way is engaging in the creative process always a creative collaboration?

What to bring
No experience in art-making is necessary, just a willingness to play and be curious. Materials are provided, but please bring along a notebook for sketching out your dialogues and reflections.’
