Event Description

What’s involved?
A group’s dynamic is especially relevant to facilitation, as well as to personal, management and organisational development. You are invited to express an interest in joining an experiential group of between five to ten people, meeting once a week over nine months, to explore aspects of group dynamics in action. This offering has been designed specially for AMED Members, Guests, Networkers and like-minded individuals. Each one-and-a-half hour session is unstructured, allowing participants to develop trust, empathy and management and leadership skills, and to improve their understanding of themselves and others. This more extended programme is prompted by a highly successful six-week pilot earlier this year, and arises from suggestions from its participants. However, membership of this 35-week version is not dependent upon prior participation in this pilot, and is open to anyone who is interested, following a conversation with Tim Thomas, a Member of the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA).

Group members contract to attend every session. This is a collaboration between the IGA and the Association for Management Education and Development (AMED).

The aim of this series of meetings is to provide a deeper understanding of group dynamics, including anxiety-in-groups, and to foster the development of mutual trust and empathy. We are exploring with IGA the possibility of some accreditation towards further IGA-certified training in group analysis for anyone who wishes subsequently to take this exploration further.

About your facilitator

Tim Thomas is a Member of both the IGA and AMED. He was until recently principal group analyst at the Riverside Centre, Hillingdon Hospital and currently conducts groups at Roehampton University, WPF-Therapy and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He has worked with housing departments, social services, training couples counsellors, teachers and managers. He edits the IGA’s journal, and facilitated the recent successful six-week pilot on behalf of AMED.
