'Editing is the process of selecting and preparing written, visual, audible, and film media used to convey information through the processes of correction, condensation, organization, and other modifications performed with an intention of producing a correct, consistent, accurate, and complete work.
The editing process often begins with the author's idea for the work itself, continuing as a collaboration between the author and the editor as the work is created. As such, editing is a practice that includes creative skills, human relations, and a precise set of methods.'
How far do you agree with this interpretation? Is editing always like this, or are there other - sometimes more problematic - aspects of editing as well?
One way or another, editing is at work everywhere. Knowingly or not, we’re all editors, and we’ve all experienced the editing process. This year, we’d like to explore with you our collective experiences of and possibilities for ‘editing at work’. What meanings and experiences of ‘editing’ might you bring? In what contexts and circumstances might editing be ‘at work’?
To discover what might happen, please open the document at the top of this panel.
This is the 6th of our annual collaborative writing workshops by the sea. It's happening in the middle of the Brighton Festival, and takes place on a Friday. So why not plan to make a festive weekend of it?
We look forward to seeing you at the seaside!
