An Invitation……..
At the April Meeting of the AMED St Albans Group we have followed up the action points from the previous meeting and plan to experiment with running a low-cost workshop for anyone living around St Albans with an interest in development (AMED members or not). Before offering this opportunity ‘externally’, we’d like to do a trial workshop at our next scheduled group meeting on MONDAY, 24 MAY 2010.
Are you familiar with Appreciative Inquiry and its use in strategy, team-building and coaching?
Even if you are, we hope you will be interested in assessing practical ways it can be applied to our work as consultants. Beryl Perez has very kindly agreed to introduce the session. We plan to undertake a brief activity and it will be useful to have at least 6 participants in order to get a helpful assessment of its value.
Please rsvp before Monday 17th if you are available to take part.
Best Wishes

Why don't you come to the next meeting of the latter on Monday 26th April and we can chat? Venue yet to be decided, so ring me on 01727 868191 if you can make it. Meetings are over lunchtime.
Best wishes,
Deb
It is great to hear from you - how have you been keeping? I shall try to arrange a Cafe Conversation in May or June. Would you find the old time of 11am good or would you like to try an afternoon time - say 4pm? What do you think?
Great to meet you on Wednesday. You missed a very interesting AGM. highlights included
the discovery that AMED has been losing members hand over fist recently (500 last August down to 420 by December, now 350) 60% of members are over 50. A combination of shortage of work (thus no longer needing our cheap indemnity insurance) and retirement. David Shepherd has done a brilliant job of keeping AMED afloat financially eg. we can’t afford paper O & Ps,. He and Belina Raffy have put energy into setting up the new website as a rebranding and a new platform for networking, which will hopefully act as a stimulus for the development of Centres of Energy around the network.
an interesting debate, not about what’s AMED for (previously agreed to be “Knowledge, Innovation and Networking”) but what value it can offer to paying/non-paying members.
Views expressed included the distinctive content of O & P (our legacy), cheap insurance, education (maybe through mutual assistance via the website) to enabling the co-creation of energy and knowledge via the website. At the end everyone agreed that what we offer which makes us distinctive is our unique focus on practical expertise. We are The Practitioners’ Resource of choice.
Before we reached this point David Shepherd was replaced as Chair by John Wilkes and Belina Rafferty, and Ned Seabrook agreed to shoulder the financial brief (with David’s help).
As it wasn’t a ’normal’ meeting no ‘normal’ business was conducted so there weren’t any opportunities to volunteer for small tasks. I explained your offer to volunteer your services in the next couple of months, together with my own.( I was asked to join the Council on the basis of being present and willing, but was not sure this was the level of commitment you had in mind so have not signed you up in your absence. However the Council needs more and fresh members, so if you wished to join at the next meeting I am sure you would be welcomed with open arms.).
The only urgent job was to find content for August’s O & P as the editor, Terry Gibson’s, wife is very sick. David McAra asked Ned Seabrook to write something in praise of the new website . Ned asked me if he and I could use our existing exchanges on the Amed site as the basis of emergency copy. Do you have a pet project you would like to get into print? Now is your opportunity – contact David McAra
I feel there are lots of opportunities to re-invigorate AMED at a time when many organisations will be forced to undergo radical change, and I remember how vibrant AMED has been and can be again. (Do you remember the stories about King Arthur being re-awoken when his country needs him?) .
Have just rung Paul Z Jackson (not sure how anyone can be so charming with such an irritating ‘Z ‘) to fix a lunch for local members. At his suggestion I have posted it (Tuesday 4 August) as an event on the AMED website. I hope you can make it. I assume you will come by train so we are meeting very near the station. If you are unfamiliar with our station’s two entrances I would be happy to meet you at the station. Paul thought it would be easier with an agenda, so we thought we could get to know each other (you’ll be the only one there I’ve met) by talking about what we are doing workwise.
I would like to make some new friends who speak ‘Development-ese’, to whinge about the organisation I’m working with amongst friends (counsellors get ‘supervision’) and find out what approaches others are using (and why). I would be delighted to offer my friendship, my experience and a listening ear. So do come. If you can’t come on that date I’d love to meet anyway. My phone number is 077921 68521.
