Might be helpful for those who don't know you, Vic, to understand that this apparently academic question has some practical urgency for you! http://www.enduroafrica.com/itinerary.htm
David - Thanks for this and yes indeed, 15-27 October I am on the Durban to PE run per www.enduroafrica.com - but while this is an immediate example of a very tangible challenge, I am equally interested to look more widely at all aspects of humans and challenges such as:

- Univited challenges as opposed to those we choose to confront
- Day to day challenges as distinct from show stoppers and (potentially) cataclysmic ones
- Learning challenges and learning from challenges

And from these, examine strategies adopted to overcome the challenge:

- Big bang
- Incremental
- Fight or flight
- Disregard or avoidance

As some people have been inspirational to me in the ways they have addressed challenges. Others, sadly, have been overwhelmed

I hope this clarfies a little and thanks for engaging

Best rgds
