Event Description

Your invitation
Following the publication of the Spring 2018 edition of e-O&P on ‘Writing and facilitation’, please join us for another highly participative AMED Writers' Group (AWG) gathering, run in association with Telling Stories Press. Tony, our facilitator this afternoon, contributed an article to the Spring edition, and has also just published a book called 'Secret Box'.  Afterwards, we can make an optional (but highly recommended!) visit to our local pub (The Ship).
Tony writes:
'Inspired by the Human Potential Movement, this workshop spotlights radical methods from five leaders (Abraham Maslow, Ira Progoff, Julia Cameron, James Pennebaker and Nancy Kline) who contributed to a century of advances in how people connect, what we share and nourish, and what we suppress. Their work will inform our live practice in 1) writing expressively and 2) working together creatively.’
Everyone is welcome, AMED Member or not, so please feel free to spread the word.
Our typically open and informal facilitated AWG gatherings are a wonderful opportunity to meet old and new friends who are interested in writing, reading, listening, learning conversations and conviviality in any form.
Cost: (payable in advance via the AMED web page by Paypal, BACS or cheque here, or on arrival): £12 for full AMED Members; £15 for Networkers and Guests. This includes light refreshments.

RSVP: If you can, please reply by 6 June (earlier if possible) to reserve your place. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions, or if you’d like to offer to facilitate a future AWG session.

Best wishes. Bob. E: bob@amed.org.uk

How to summarise last Friday's event?

A sunny, happy and productive afternoon. Eight of us arrived at Roots and Shoots to practice re-connecting creatively through writing and speaking. I introduced the Human Potential Movement and 5 of its champions in creativity (Maslow, Progoff, Cameron, Pennebaker and Kline) and displayed their books. Their work brought us inspiration. We practised 15 mins expressive writing by the James Pennebaker method producing a range of feelings and reflections (including 'freed me from fight and flight', 'amazing', 'diverted', 'crystallising something', 'not sure').

In the second half, we practised holding a meeting using Nancy Kline's method on a topic ('how can we address the perils of plastic'). We aligned on some bottom-up changes we want to make in our lives. The group was joining in energy, openness and creativity (and not without brain-ache either!).

At the end, the feedback was a fabulous session, much enjoyed and (I love this phrase): 'useful future-proofing through creativity and connecting to carry us forward into the next century'!

From my point of view, although my Secret Box book was there, and the session was much inspired by what's in it about my dad and his work, I didn't much refer to him or the book. Now I'm sending round to those who attended the blog link here (https://goo.gl/PuQbF4) and a Lapidus network member present has asked will I put on a session about the book, which I'm eager to offer and I can send round news of that later.

BTW a repeat or similar 'Writing and Meeting to Re-connect Creatively' workshop is booked with Sadler Heath London for 7 December 2018. Please hold the date and come along if you can. For those interested in the shape of the session, I'm posting some flipcharts here.
