Event Description

Benefits and barriers when writing for impact 2018: Pilot Writing Support Group for early career researchers and academics
AMED is delighted to be working with partner ISBE to run a pilot writing support group consisting of two free workshops for early career researchers in small business and entrepreneurship. If this proves successful, we plan to make this initiative more widely available.
Workshop 1:
The inaugural workshop on 3 March will be held at Birmingham City University, with a follow-up workshop scheduled for 12 May.
Process:
Interactions will draw upon principles of action learning and critical friendship, and follow an agenda shaped by writing-related problems and issues that participants themselves identify.  For more information, click here.
Facilitators:
Facilitated by Dr Kayleigh Watson of Northumbria University and Chair of ISBE’s Early Career Researcher Forum, and by Dr Bob MacKenzie of AMED, the sessions will address many common problems and satisfactions that academic (and other) writers experience, and aim to foster an ethos of mutual support, and encourage participants to acknowledge that being a writer is an important aspect of their academic identity.

Quite apart from research-specific challenges, problems can include fear, procrastination, feelings of isolation, lack of inspiration or motivation, perfectionism, scheduling and prioritising our writing, and our inner critic.

Refreshments:

Light refreshments will be provided.  Please feel free to bring your own lunch, or to purchase food from nearby stalls.
Interested?
Participants at ISBE 2017’s Doctoral Day have been offered priority places, but if you would like to exprerss an interest in case of any vacancies and wish to receive updates, please email info@isbe.org.uk. or bob@amed.org.uk.
