SUMMARY:Facilitation Training Day

omi Archer (Leeds Council)\n\nThe Course\n\nWorking effectively with l
ocal communities is an essential part of getting things done in any ne
ighbourhood. It is also important for the development of better policy
and practice, for understanding local needs and developing more susta
inable communities.\n\nLocal meetings and engagement processes can too
often be un-involving, unproductive and even confrontational. Good fa
cilitation can help tackle these problems and help people to make loca
l discussion and planning an enjoyable and productive process.\n\nPeop
le attending this course will learn how to:\n\n• How and when to hol
d meetings and when to use other approaches\n• Build a working relat
ionship with an existing organisation or a group of individuals\n• U
se appropriate tools and techniques\n• Develop facilitation work in
ways appropriate to a range of diverse communities\n• Deal with prob
lematic situations\n• Evaluate facilitated processes\n\nThe interact
ive course will also look closely at the roles a facilitator may play
and how and when a facilitator’s role may link in to work on longer
term community development. It will build the confidence of anyone kee
n to be a good facilitator and give them a solid basis on which to dev
elop their own skills in the longer term.\n\nWho should attend this co
urse?\n\nThe event will benefit anyone working with groups of people i
n formal or informal settings. Whether a novice starting out, or an ex
perienced facilitator wishing to expand on their techniques, the cours
e will be tailored to the participants’ needs.\n\nThe Facilitator\n\
nThe course will be led by Chris Church. Chris is a popular and effect
ive facilitator. He has over 20 years experience of training and worki
ng with voluntary and community organisations on environmental and soc
ial issues. Chris has facilitated work with a wide range of organisati
