If you are concerned about climate change you need to help other people get active. To do that you need to be able to communicate confidently and effectively.

This popular course has been updated in early 2010 to take into account current concerns over scientific data, next steps after Copenhagen, and the need to communicate positive futures as well as problems.

You don’t need to be an expert or a scientist: you do need to be good at talking, presenting and listening. If you can communicate well, then you can inspire others to act. Whether you want to talk with one person, twenty, or one hundred, there are core skills that can help you get the message across. This one day course will help you build the skills you need to communicate climate change.

The training session will provide:

• Why good communication of climate change is so important
• Learn about target audiences - what peoples 'key drivers' are and current segmentation methodology.
• Communicating with people in different situations: Persuading colleagues –
lobbying situations - talking to friends – working with business – addressing a large audience
• Major climate change issues and difficult questions
• The Key skills of communication – speaking, listening, body language, etc
• Overcoming those inner barriers to good communication
• Engaging and communicating with diverse organisations
• Practice delivering persuasive messages and a chance to receive feedback

Who should attend this training?

This course is for anyone who is keen to get people active on climate change. Whether you work for a local council, business or organization, or are simply keen to make a difference this course will give you the skills and knowledge you need.

This is a day that will look at communication in different situations from political lobbying to talking in the street, from answering awkward questions to talking with your friends. Work in
small groups will help build you confidence and ensure that the course meets your needs.

Facilitation Training (Edinburgh) at The Melting Pot

April 4, 2012 from 10am to 4pm
‘Very useful, made me reconsider my approach when dealing with communities’Brian Dunne (Scottish Natural Heritage) ‘Extremely helpful to go through the whole process of facilitation’Ruth Campbell (Waste Aware Scotland) ‘Lots of meaty content - very engaging!’The Eden Project The need for good local engagement is becoming ever more important as work develops around empowerment and the ‘Big Society’. The CourseThis interactive course will look closely at the roles a facilitator may play and how and when a facilitator’s role may link in to work on longer term community development. It will build the confidence of anyone keen to be a good facilitator and give them a solid basis on which to develop their own skills. Local meetings and engagement processes can too often be un-involving, unproductive and even confrontational. Good facilitation can help tackle these problems and help people to make local discussion and planning an enjoyable and productive process. It is also important for the development of better policy and practice, for understanding local needs and developing more sustainable communities. People attending this course will learn how to:1. How and when to hold meetings and when to use other approaches2. Build a working relationship with an existing organisation or a group of individuals3. Use appropriate tools and techniques4. Develop facilitation work in ways appropriate to a range of diverse communities5. Deal with problematic situations6.
