Event Description

This event was brought to our attention by AMED Writers' Group Member Paul Matthews.

You have a great idea for a book and you are serious about getting it published - but how do you make sure your proposal does not end on the publisher's reject pile?

Each publisher receives hundreds of book ideas every year, so this afternoon is for YOU, if you want to get the edge on other authors and ensure your proposal stands out from the crowd. It gives you the 'inside scoop' on the publishing industry and helps you understand how commissioning editors tick. With this expert knowledge, you will discover how to polish your proposal so it 'pushes all the right buttons', making your book idea a tempting prospect that a publisher cannot resist.

After this session, you will understand:

How the publishing industry really works

How different publishers evaluate book ideas

What really happens to your proposal after you send it to a publisher

How to make your book proposal one that publishers will want to accept

Plus - you will get your questions on the 'ins and outs' of the industry, answered in person

Your facilitator: Alison Yates

Alison is a freelance editor and publishing consultant who works with publishers and authors to create successful publications. She has worked as a Commissioning Editor for two major global publishers: 'Elsevier' and 'John Wiley & Sons' and has commissioned best-selling books for academics, professionals and general readers. She's also been a senior member of the commissioning team on the 'For Dummies' beginners' guides, the world's best-selling knowledge brand.

Your investment

Only £49.99 (inclusive of VAT) for the session
