The Association for Management Education and Development

AMED is the network for developers, a unique association of individuals committed to developing people and organisations.

Within the overall aim of promoting and encouraging management education and development, AMED explores new ideas, shares research and good practice and develops skills needed for the future, for the personal and professional benefit of people in all communities.

AMED’s development values and style distinguish it from other organisations in the international field of management education. We strive to behave in line with our values, modelling these in our activities. We value:

  • organisation and people development as mutually reinforcing
  • all individuals in the development process, whatever their role
  • clarity, integrity and honesty in theory, principles, research and practice
  • feedback from our own and other networks
  • change - both practical and attitudinal - as essential to the development process
  • the contribution of development to our changing world
  • Our strategy, based on our values and our vision for what we wish to become by the year 2000, defines the framework to guide goal-setting and action; it is under continual review and combines what we want to do (our interests and desires) what we could do (opportunities in the environment) what we have to do (our responsibilities) and what we can do (with our competence and resources).

We want to:

  • develop ourselves as a learning organisation
  • develop other people and organisations
  • build a thriving, active network reaching into Europe and the wider world
  • encourage more people to benefit from our network
  • become ready for our next phase of development

We could:

  • meet changing needs
  • enable deeper understanding of development and its impact on the future

We have to:

  • fulfil our obligations in law
  • meet members' needs

We can:

  • encourage curiosity, learning and shared insights
  • work on issues which may be difficult
  • become even more professional without losing creativity
  • innovate
